Recognizes exceptional service to American jurisprudence by a leader of the bench or bar. Nominations for the 2027 award are due January 5, 2027; annual presentation is not guaranteed.
Who it's for
Individual member of bench or bar with exceptional jurisprudential service, generally combining public/community service and leadership in practice, legal education/research or judiciary. Nominations invited from ABA House of Delegates members, section/division chairs, listed affiliated organization presidents and state bar presidents. Not an unrestricted self-nomination opportunity. Active sitting judges generally not considered where an appearance of favor or endorsement may arise.
